Kasauli

Situated in the solan district of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 1927 meters above sea level is the underrated cantonment destination Kasauli. The picturesque destination derives its name from a mountain stream Kausalya that flows between kasauli and Jabli. The place gets a mention in the epic Ramayana when Lord Hanuman stepped at this serene destination on his way to the Sanjeevani hills to procure the medicinal herb in order to save Laxman. It is also believed that few Rajput families took refuge in this place in the 17th century owing to the troubled political situation in their hometown in Rewari. The Britishers explored the place in the 19th century and Kasuali became an integral part of the Gorkha Regiment expansion. It has since then become an important cantonment town of the Indian Army and houses important institutions like Central Research Institute, Kasauli Club and Pasteur institute.
