Nahan, Himachal Pradesh

Situated at an altitude of 932 metres above sea level at the Shivalik Hills of Himachal Pradesh is the picturesque town of Nahan. The head quarter of Sirmour district this beautiful destination is the nearest hill station from Delhi and makes for a great weekend getaway. The well laid town was the capital city of Raja Karan Prakash in 1621. It is a great base place to visit the surrounding areas like Paonta Sahib, Trilokpur temple, Suketi Fossil Park, Renukaji Temple.

KEY ATTRACTION AT Nahan

The beautiful town of Nahan offers Tample options for sightseeing. The three lovely walkways - Villa Round, Military Round and Hospital Round, are the special attractions apart from the many temples. The local temples include Miyan Mandir, Nainidhar Shiv Mandir, Kalisthan Temple and Jagannath temple. Chaugan, Bikram Bagh and Khadar-ka-bagh form the hub of activities in Nahan. In the centre of the town is Ran ital, having a large temple and a water pond with ducks and cranes adding to its charm.

About 23 kms away from Nahan is situated the Trilokpur temple dedicated to Goddess Mahamaya Bala Sundri. One can also visit Dhaula kuan, situated about 20kms from Nahan having an extensive plantation of citrus fruits and mangoes and a fruit canning factory preparing jams, pickles, juices and canned fruits.

About 21 kms from Nahan is the Suketi Fossil Park or the Shivalik Fossil Park which exhibits life size fibre reinforced plastic models of ancient animals whose skeletons were discovered here.

HOW TO REACH Nahan

Nahan is approximately 261 kms away from Delhi. It is just 4-5 hours drive form Delhi and about 3 hours drive from Chandigarh. The best way to reach Nahan is by road. One can either take their own car or regular bus services are available from Delhi, Manali, Shimla and even Haridwar. The nearest airport is Chandigarh followed by Dehradun and Shimla. The nearest railway stations are Ambala, Chandigarh and Kalka.
