Gulmarg

Gulmarg is one of the fantastic places located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Gulmarg means a meadow of flowers. In this blessed land travellers enjoy to the fullest; be it the astonishing beauty of its beautiful landscape or adventure sports, such as skiing, golf, and trekking. Gulmarg lies in a cup shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 2,650 m (8,694 feet), 56 km from Srinagar. The natural meadows of Gulmarg, which are covered with snow in winter, allow the growth of wild flowers such as daisies, forget-me-nots and butter cups during spring and summer. The meadows are interspersed by enclosed parks and small lakes, and surrounded by forests of green pine and fir. Skiing and other winter sports in Gulmarg are carried out on the slopes of Apharwat peak at a height of 4,267 m (13,999 feet). Many points on Apharwat peak and Khilanmarg offer a panoramic view of Nanga Parbat and Harmukh mountains. Gulmarg is the "heartland of winter sports in India". Winter sports like skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding and heli-skiing take place on the slopes of Mount Apharwat reachable by a Gondola lift.

Ningle Nallah: Ningle Nallah is a striking stream that flows down through the mountains. Tourist visits this place to explore the amazing richness of the place. The ambiance of the place is very relaxing and enjoyable. The snow is what catches the attention of the travellers. This Nallah is located at a distance of 10 km away from Gulmarg.

Drung:
Drung is another stream that is widely popular for its activities such as fishing and rock climbing.

Alpathar Lake: Alpathar Lake is one of the major attractions of Gulmarg. This calm and beautiful Lake is also known as the picnic spot. The mesmerizing ambiance of the place is truly speechless. Here enjoy the scenic beauty of the hills and snow-capped mountains. Trekking at this place is also very popular.

HOW TO REACH Gulmarg

The town is accessible from Srinagar by road via Tangmarg. The road climbs uphill in the last 12 km to Gulmarg passing through forests of pine and fir. The nearest airport is at Srinagar which is 56 km away. The airport of Srinagar is well connected with the all the major cities. Jammu is the nearest railway station, at a distance of 290 km. Jammu railway station is well connected to the most of the railheads in major Indian cities. Gulmarg is also well-connected with regular bus services from Srinagar, Sonmarg and other neighbouring towns in Kashmir.

WEATHER AT Gulmarg

The summer season starts in the month of March and remains till the month of May. The highest temperature during this season is about 29°C and the lowest is 13°C. The Monsoon season comes in the month of July and remains till August. Monsoon receives very moderate rainfall. The rainfall does not create any disturbance and it is the best season in Gulmarg to enjoy adventure sports. Winter comes in the month of November and severe snowfall can be seen. The maximum temperature during the month is about –4°C and lowest is 11°C. The winter season is great for skiing.
