Jammu

Nestled at the backdrop of Pir Panjal ranges, Jammu is a celebrated historic city. Jammu is built on a series of ridges and is therefore believed to be an architect''s masterpiece. Jammu is a focal point for the route to Mata Vaishno Devi. The southernmost part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir is constituted by Jammu. This region serves as a transition zone between the hilly Himalayan ranges and the Punjab plains. Jammu region is also locally referred to as Duggardesh. The Jammu city serves as the winter capital of the state. The city of Jammu offers great options to tourists and it remains the main gateway to the Kashmir valley. This holy city of Hindus is famous for shrines and temples. Moreover, Jammu has a rich cultural heritage of Hindu, Islam and Sikh religions. Apart from the various temples in the heart of the city, there are beautiful forests, waterfalls and rivulets in the surrounding areas.

KEY ATTRACTION AT Jammu


Idgah - 
The city has several Idgahs, but the one of Ziarat Baba Buddan Shah is one of the most famous amongst all the Jammu attractions. Ziarat Baba Roshan Shah Wali and Panch Peer are the other famous Idgahs in the city.

Mubarak Mandi Palace - 
The Mubarak Mandi Palace has various buildings within its premises, with the oldest building dating back to the year 1824. The Sheesh Mahal and the pink hall having Dogra art museum are the main attractions of this place. The museum houses various ancient paintings from different schools of art and various rare Persian manuscripts.

Raghunath temple - The Raghunath temple is a well-known temple in north India. Located in the centre of Jammu city, this temple was built by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1835 and completed by Maharaja Ranbir Singh, his son in the year 1860. This famous temple of Lord Ram has beautiful golden sheets on the walls of the main temple.

Amar Mahal Palace Museum - 
The Amar Mahal Palace Museum was once the residence of Raja Amar Singh. This palace made of red sandstone is a beautiful palace at a great location between the Shivaliks and Tawi River. The palace has magnificent golden throne made of 120 kilograms of gold placed in a hexagonal room and bears the design of golden lions in it. The palace now converted into the museum also has an art gallery and a heritage hotel adjacent to it.

HOW TO REACH Jammu

Jammu can be reached from anywhere in India, thanks to an equipped excellent road, rail and air network. Satwari Airport, Jammu, is served by major airlines of India. It offers regular flight service from places like Delhi, Srinagar, Leh and Mumbai. The airport is located in the heart of Jammu and can be reached by any means of public transport. Jammu has a good network of roadways. NH1 passes through Jammu and connects it to India''s most pictorial destination, Kashmir. Jammu is also served regularly by state and private buses from places like Amritsar, Delhi, Manali, Ludhiana and Shimla. Local cabs are available outside bus terminus for convenience of passengers. Jammu Tawi, a prominent railway junction, is located within Jammu city. It connects Jammu to almost all important Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Pune, Amritsar with regular express and mail train services.

WEATHER AT Jammu

Summer season in the city of Jammu is hot. The maximum temperature can go as high as 45°C. The summers begin in the month of March and continue till the month of May. The months from June to August receive sufficient rainfall. This is not the best season to visit Jammu. The autumn season post monsoon is the best time to visit Jammu, as it is the flowering season and is characterized by pleasant climate. Winter season begins in the month of November and continues till the month of February.
