Pahalgam is one of the five tehsils of Anantnag district and the headquarters of the tehsil are located in the main town of Pahalgam. It is associated with Amarnath Yatra that takes place every year in the month of July to August. The Amarnath Yatra starts from Chandanwari located at an altitude of around 2895 meters and situated around 16 km from Pahalgam. Around 11 km from Chandanwari lays the mountain Lake Sheshnag, at an altitude of 3574 meter and around 13 km away is the last stop Panchtarni. Apart from all this, Pahalgam is also famous for activities like golf, horse riding, trekking and many water sport activities.

Amarnath Caves At just 55 Km from Kokernag, Amarnath caves is a must visit place. The caves are home to the naturally occurring ice Shivlinga. It is one of the most significant pilgrim centres for the devotees of Lord Shiva and opens to the visitors for only some days every year. Betaab Valley Betaab Valley in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kahsmir is an immensely popular tourist destination that owes its beauty to bordering snowy mountains, pine and deodar forests and Sheshnag River. From lazing around to camping, Betaab Valley is one answer to both adventurers and leisure travellers. There are many interesting facts about Betaab Valley that increase your inquisitiveness to take a visit. It is a paradise for Hindi film industry. Movies like Aarzoo, Kashmir Ki Kali, Kabhie Kabhie and Silsila were shot here. The valley got its name ''Betaab'' after the Sunny Deol-Amrita Singh hit debut film ''Betaab'' was shot here. From sunrise to sunset, Betaab Valley casts its magical spell upon visitors all through the day. Aru Valley This is a small village located at a distance of around 15 km from Pahalgam offering you an easy reach by driving. The village is located among the grasslands which give a picturesque beauty to the village, making it a famous tourist destination. This valley is the starting point for trekking to Kolahoi glacier.

HOW TO REACH Pahalgaon

Pahalgam is perched at a height of nearly 7, 200 feet and thereby offers panoramic vista of Kashmir valley. It is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra. Pahalgam enjoys excellent road connectivity with rest of Kashmir. One has to board a flight till Srinagar Airport to reach Pahalgam by air. A number of flights connect Srinagar directly with several important Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh etc. A well laid network of roads connect Pahalgam with rest of Kashmir Valley. Udhampur railway station located around 218 km away is the nearest station to Pahalgam. Limited trains are available till date up to Udhampur. However, number of trains connects Jammu Tawi station with rest of India including Delhi, Kolkata, Pathankot and Amritsar on daily basis.

WEATHER AT Pahalgaon

The period between March to November is the best time to visit Pahalgam as the weather is good for outdoor activities. If you are an adventure lover and want to enjoy skiing then winter is the best season for you to visit Pahalgam. Summers stay between the months of March to June and are warm and pleasant. The temperature can go up to a maximum of 25° C and a minimum of 11° C. This season is the best to plan for Amarnath yatra as there will be no snowfall in the region. Monsoon starts during the month of July and ends in September and is very scanty. Humidity is at the highest level during monsoon. Winter in Pahalgam starts in October and ends in February. It remains chilly and snow bound during winters. The mercury level during winters can fall to zero levels and region receives fresh rainfall providing a picturesque landscape to the visitors.
